COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s hockey standout Sophie Jaques has been named to the 2021-22 Academic All-America® women’s at-large teams selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Jaques earned second team honors and becomes just the second player in program history, and first since 2009, to garner the Academic All-America honor.

Jaques, who is a 2021-22 First Team Academic All-District honoree, was named the WCHA’s Outstanding Student-Athlete of the Year for the 2021-22 season. The 2022 Arthur Ashe Jr. Female Sport Scholar of the Year is a three-time WCHA All-Academic team member and Academic All-Big Ten selection. This May, the Buckeye blueliner graduated magna cum laude with a degree in civil engineering and a cumulative GPA of 3. 765.

The Toronto, Ontario native led the particular 2022 national champion Buckeyes with an Ohio State defenseman record 59 points during the 2021-22 campaign for the second-most single season points by a true defenseman in NCAA history. Jaques was instrumental in the Buckeyes’ second-ever WCHA Final Faceoff title, tallying both the game-tying and game-winning goal in the championship game against Minnesota. Finishing the season with 11 power play goals, 44 blocked shots and a +51 on ice, Jaques was an invaluable part of Ohio State’s national championship season. She finished the year second nationally in assists per game (1. 00) and power play goals while closing the season third in points and points per game (1. 55).

Jaques’ Buckeye career is not over yet, though, as she will use her final year of eligibility to continue her academic and athletic career at Ohio State. She will be pursuing a graduate degree in civil engineering.
