‘Kayfabe’ in Wrestling

The term “kayfabe” is used by wrestling fans and insiders to refer to the portrayal of wrestling personas, storylines, and choreographed action as real to the audience. It’s a key element of pro-wrestling, but it can be a difficult concept to grasp for people who aren’t familiar with the sport.

Women’s College Wrestling

The NCAA has been recognizing the rising popularity and growth of women’s college wrestling. More than 302 schools currently sponsor wrestling teams, including many four-year institutions and jr college programs.

Among these schools, the Iowa Hawkeyes are one of the top wrestling programs in the country. The team’s Head Coach, Dan Gable, has won two NCAA Championships at 130 lbs and 137 lbs.

Spencer Lee is another great example of a wrestler on the rise, who recently finished his second undefeated season in college wrestling. He defended his lightweight title in the NCAA tournament, completing a perfect 5-0 record.

He lost to Nick Piccininni in the first round, but he rebounded to win by fall in the next match. It’s hard to imagine a better performance from a college wrestler than that, especially since Lee is on the verge of becoming one of the all-time greats in the sport.

While O’Toole, Bravo-Young and Starocci may be able to remain undefeated in the regular season, they can’t afford to do the same with their titles on the line. They’ll need to get back into a rhythm and start defending their titles as soon as possible, or they could find themselves on the wrong side of history.
